What is interventional radiology?
Interventional radiology is a medical specialty that uses image guidance — like X-ray, ultrasound, CT, and MRI — to perform minimally invasive procedures through tiny incisions. Most treatments that once required open surgery can now be done this way, with less pain, smaller scars, and faster recovery.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
It depends on your insurance plan. Some plans require a referral from your primary care provider, while others allow you to schedule directly. Call our office and we’ll help you confirm what your plan requires.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a list of all current medications (including doses), any recent imaging on disc, and your completed new patient forms. If you have a referral or prior records related to the issue, those help your physician prepare.
How long does a typical procedure take?
Most of our procedures take between 30 minutes and 2 hours. Plan to be at our facility for 3 to 5 hours total to allow for check-in, prep, the procedure itself, and recovery. Your care team will give you a more specific estimate when you schedule.
Will I be awake during my procedure?
Most interventional procedures are performed under moderate sedation — you’ll be relaxed and comfortable but able to respond. Some procedures use only local anesthesia, while a few require general anesthesia. Your physician will discuss what’s right for you ahead of time.
When can I return to normal activity?
Recovery from minimally invasive procedures is generally much quicker than from open surgery. Most patients return to light activity within 24 to 48 hours and resume normal routines within a week. Your physician will give you specific recovery instructions for your procedure.
How do I get a copy of my medical records?
You can access your records anytime through the patient portal. For a complete copy or to release records to another provider, please use the Medical Records Release Request form found in the Patient Forms section.
